Researchers have looked at the link between sex hormone levels in the womb and during puberty and virus-related hospitalizations.

Previous studies have already confirmed that a longer ring finger is a marker of higher testosterone levels.

To know your risk of hospitalization for Covid-19, you don't always think about looking at your fingers. Still, there may well be a connection. In fact, previous studies have already confirmed that a longer ring finger is a marker of higher testosterone levels before birth. A longer index is a marker of higher estrogen levels.

Identify patients at risk.

But then, what is the link with Covid-19? Researchers at Swansea University in Wales have examined the link between sex hormone levels in the womb and during puberty with hospitalizations related to the new coronavirus virus. Therefore, the researchers observed that patients with short little fingers tend to have severe Covid-19 symptoms leading to hospitalization. According to this study, patients with large differences between the right and left hands have a high probability of hospitalization. These findings were published in Scientific Reports.

There are currently several trials of testosterone drugs as a treatment for Covid-19. Results that suggest that "the severity of Covid-19 is related to low levels of testosterone and possibly high levels of estrogen in men and women", underlines Professor Manning. Before completing: "This is important because if it is possible to identify more precisely who is likely to be subject to severe Covid-19, it would help guide vaccination." Other studies should confirm this link with a larger sample of participants.
