The explosion, whose origin has not yet been determined, "destroyed a substantial part of a four-story building" on André Karman street.
The aid was mobilized yesterday from 5:30 a.m. on this incident, which required the mobilization of "more than 200 firefighters" from the Paris fire brigade and 71 devices.
The explosion caused a quickly extinguished fire, indicated the Paris firefighters who proceeded to evacuate several dozen people housed in the twelve apartments of the building as well as in adjacent buildings.
The inhabitants have all been "a priori" evacuated, specifies the prefecture. According to the dpa agency, the provisional balance amounts to 22 injured, three of them "in absolute emergency".
The operations focused in the morning on the search for possible victims in the rubble, with the help of a canine team, and securing the building that threatens to collapse, firefighters said.
A security perimeter has been established to protect the surroundings of the weakened building, and an architect was expected to be on site this morning to assess the damage and possible risk of collapse. Thirty residents had to be evacuated.
