There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The only and best way to prevent the disease is to avoid exposure to the virus. Centers for disease control and prevention always recommend preventive measures to help prevent the spread of the disease. These measures are:

  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and then throw it away.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, using a common household cleaning product in a spray or wipe.
  • Follow the recommendations of the CDC on the use of masks.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If you do not have soap or water, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Always wash your hands with soap and water if they are visibly dirty.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 Treatment (COVID-19)

There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for COVID-19. People with COVID-19 should receive supportive care to help relieve symptoms. In severe cases, treatment should include medical attention to support the functioning of vital organs.

People who believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
